Influencing policies

We are in contact with the wood production and commercialisation chain as a material used in crates, packaging and pallets; especially black poplar as the main material for manufacturing plywood, wooden components, and crates for food and agriculture.

Phytosanitary Measures

We provide our associates with professional advice

We monitor and advise on applying the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM-15), which regulates wooden packaging used for international trade. We maintain direct contact with the Subdirectorate-General of Plant Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, and the various inspection organizations that operate in the countries of destination..

Food safety

Influencing legislation and regulations

We take part in drawing up regulations that unify the current different national systems on hygiene in manufacturing crates (BRC/IoP, IFS, ISO 2200, etc), as we are part of the Committee CEN/TC 261/ WG 1 “Management of hygiene in the production of packaging for foodstuffs”."

We take part in the proposals for the crate sector put forward to the European Commission on legislation that requires the traceablity of materials in contact with foodstuffs, and in the drawing up of a guide on how to implement traceability in each crate sector, as we form part of the Industrial Committee on Traceability and Materials in Contact with Foodstuffs. 

Advising our associates:

GROW International has developed and adapted the methodology of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) for its associated companies, which also enables them to adapt to the new requirements of the IFS certificate.

We advise on how to implement traceability in the wooden crate sector.

 

Environment

Influencing legislation and regulations

We monitor the sector’s points of view on new legislations that affect us and we inform the Ministry of the Environment, as we are part of the Intermaterials Committee, the Legislation Work Group, and the board of directors of Ecoembalajes España, S.A. (ECOEMBES), where the objectives of the Crates and Crate Waste Law are discussed. s.

We show how the objectives of the Crates and Crate Waste Law are reached, avoiding the application of the eco-tax, as we study the Tax for Recycling Wooden Crates and Packaging in Spain on an annual basis, in collaboration with Ecoembalajes España, S.A. (ECOEMBES.

We collaborate in drawing up and monitoring regulations related to environmental aspects of crates and packaging, as we are part of the AENOR Committee CTN 49 “Crates and Packaging. Horizontal aspects and Environmental Management”; GT 1 “Environmental Management”;.

Influencing policies:

We are up to date with environmental issues that affect business sectors, as we form part of the CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers' Associations) Environmental Committee.

We take part in defining proposals and developing environment-related projects within the wood sector, as we chair the CONFEMADERA Environmental Group.

Influencing the cost of the green dote

We participate in establishing yearly the Green Dot for Wood, as we chair the Technical Wood Committee that carries out studies on recovery crate recycling costs.

Making the paperwork easier for our associates

Our associates avoid individual schemes deriving from the Crates and Crate Waste Law, as we draw up the triennial Business Scheme of Sectorial Prevention in collaboration with Ecoembalajes España, S.A. (ECOEMBES), and the corresponding follow-up documentationp

Promoting waste management

We promote the recovery of wooden crates in collaboration with Ecoembalajes España, S.A. (ECOEMBES).

We also promote the recovery and recycling of waste produced by wooden crates, packaging and pallets by using the strategy of our GROW service and information.
Energy Recovery

We collaborate in drawing up regulations on solid biocombustibles, as we take part in the AENOR Committee CTN 164; GT 2 “Specification, class and assuring the quality of biofuels”. ”.

We give information and advice on the appropriate management of wood waste and the recycling situation in Spain. 

Design and Quality

Influencing the regulations

We take part in creating and reviewing regulations on wooden crates, packaging and pallets (terminology, markings, sizes, assessment for transport, pallets, wooden crates, etc., as we form part of the AENOR Committee CTN 49 “Crates and Packaging. Horizontal aspects and Environmental Management”.

We have created and we manage the “GROW Quality” regulations on the quality of crates used with fruit and vegetables, which we control through the General Regulations and Technical Regulations in collaboration with AIDIMA (Technological Institute of Wood and Furniture) 

 

Marketing and Communication

Influencing the users of wooden crates and packaging

Our commercial actions amongst wholesale and retail packagers, and distributors and their organisations reach a national scale, as we distribute corporate aids, carry out advertising campaigns in specialised press and on the Internet, provide a press office, and participate in sponsorship, direct marketing, and promotions.  

Promoting our associates and their products

We make new clients and suppliers known to our associates and we put them in contact with each other through the product-supplier brochure on our web page, and by attending trade fairs, distributing offers and petitions for offers, etc. 

Market research

We study the market share and position of our own products and those of our rival companies, users’ requirements, etc., by means of surveys and personal interviews.

Informing our associates and society

We regularly distribute reports and studies, press releases, etc., based on research that has been carried out.

Training

We speak about the management, recovery and recycling of wooden crate waste and about our organisation GROW on different types of courses or at meetings.
