FEDEMCO belongs to the AENOR CTN/49 group: "Packaging. Horizontal Aspects and Environmental Management"".

The field of action of this working group is:

  • Standardisation of packaging as refers to their horizontal aspects: miscellaneous, transport, tangible marks, environmental aspects, etc.)
  • Standardisation of those vertical aspects for which there is no specific committee, and only until one is constituted. These are: Complex packaging, Specially designed packaging for some sort of product, and General aspects of the packaging for the transportation of dangerous goods.

Ecoembalajes España, S.A. is a non-profit making corporation established on November 22nd, 1996.

The Ecoembes Aim is the design and organisation of a Waste Integrated Management System (SIG) to start up a selectively collecting system for packaging residues to be recovered and valorised, by virtue of the obligation imposed to those SIG by the Law 11/97 of April 24th,1997.

ECOEMBES guarantees the companies which become members the fulfilment of all obligations as laid down in Article IV of the Act on the issue of the packaging residues, assuming all responsibility for their observance. So, the Member Companies, are free from any obligation to deal with the recovery and recycling (by the so-called System of Deposit, Refund and Return) of the packaging they put into the market.


FEDEMCO is a shareholder of ECOEMBES, within the Raw Materials group of shareholders. Likewise, ECOLEÑO, has shares within the group of Recyclers.

FEFPEB, the European Federation of Wooden Pallet and Packaging Manufacturers was established in 1946. FEFPEB is recognised as the European Federation of representative national associations in the field of timber packaging:

  • pallets
  • light-weight packaging
  • industrial packaging.

12 European countries, represented by their national professional associations of wooden pallet and packaging manufacturers, are full member: Italy, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Turkey.

10 companies involved in the industry, like suppliers of timber, machines and equipment are associated or individual members.

The main objectives of FEFPEB are the promotion of timber packaging and the determination and defence of the interests of the European Wooden Pallet and Packaging Industry:

· The exchange of information between the members of FEFPEB in connection to a great variety of international items. FEFPEB facilitates reciprocal contacts within the pallet and packaging industry and the structure of the federation ensures a strong andeffective co-operation, focused on output and result.

·  FEFPEB represents Europe in contacts with national, super national authorities and affiliated organisations in the woodworking industries, worldwide.

·   Internal and external communication through meetings, circulars, internet, ad-hoc working groups and the annual congress enables FEFPEB to act on behalf of Europe and fulfil the objectives.

GROW INTERNACIONAL

Know GROW, the organisation that defens wooden crate sector in Europe and guarantees recycling.

Background

  • 1991.-The GROW International network is created in response to the “Töpfer Regulation” in Germany that required the guarantee that packaging would be recycled once its useful life had come to an end. That led the different organisations that belonged to the wooden crate sector in Europe to create the GROW GmbH company in Germany.
  • 1998.- GROW International S.R.L. is created. Based in Paris, it is responsible for co-ordinating the different GROW associations and keeps the ownership of the GROW registered trademark and logo.
  • 2003.- GROW International S.R.L. opens an office in Brussels to increase its lobby action before the European Institutions.
  • 2004.- GROW International is refounded as “International Confederation of Light Wooden Packaging Industries”, with the aim of involving federations and associations of other countries in GROW, irrespective of whether they belong to the European Union or not.

Aims

The main objectives, based mainly in action at a European level, are:

  • To defend the sector’s interests Since 2003, we have improved lobby action by opening an office in Brussels
  • To promote wooden packaging We develop common campaigns and coordinate attendance at trade fairs
  • To guarantee crate recycling Each country works to prevent wooden packaging waste becoming a problem for the end consumer
  • To carry out studies of interest We are leaders in research of common interest for all our members and we share the results of local projects.

Activities

  • Promotion Promotion of wooden packaging at European scale under the GROW trademark focused on: Packaging manufacturers, Packers, Distributors and Recyclers, by means of: Publications and press releases, Advertisement campaigns for magazines, Web sites and banners, Stand in the main trade fairs, Brochures, posters, souvenirs, etc.
  • Lobby actions Our Legislation observatory is mainly focused on Standardization (CEN/TC 261 “Packaging”), Traceability and Foodstuff Contact , Packaging Waste legislation, Phytosanitary measures (ISPM 15) ”.
  • Recycling National organisations provide the service in each country by linking distributors, wooden waste producers and recyclers.
  • Certification, Guides and Studies HACCP/ IFS/ BRC Certification, GROW Quality, Traceability in the wooden crates industry, Life cycle analysis of crates, Wood in contact whit foodstuff, etc.
